About TAC

Welcome to The Apothecary Company where we sell live plants, seeds, dried herbs, and herbal-based self-care products. We organically grow our herbs and handcraft our herbal products using traditional methods. Our home base is nestled in the heart of the Appalachian Mountains near the Blue Ridge Parkway, in Johnson City, Tennessee.

We strive to share the medicinal capacity of botanicals with everyone. Botanicals (yes, that includes fruit and vegetables, too) are a huge part of staying healthy and your body’s healing efficiency. Our self-care products are packed with herbal nutrients such as Phytonutrients, Antioxidants, Essential Fatty Acids, Vitamins A, B, C, E, and other Minerals as well as infusing compounds from plant essential oils. We encourage you to look at The Apothecary Company’s ingredients. We believe in providing only nourishing self-care goods that are free from toxins and harsh chemicals.

The Apothecary Company’s founding principle is the idea that hygiene products should only add quality and healing to your already established self-care habits and never increase your risk of illness. You shouldn’t ever have to wonder if you will get cancer from your lotion or dementia from your deodorant. We create medicinal products that are therapeutic because we only use wholesome, natural ingredients instead of synthetic chemicals.

We at The Apothecary Company are passionate about this philosophy – that’s why we choose to use only the most natural and most nutritious ingredients. We never use questionable preservatives like parabens or any other artificial compounds, and we make everything fresh in the USA to ensure this quality.

Think about how your body feels when you eat a fresh plant-based meal. You feel good because these fresh plants come straight from the earth. Compare such fresh wholesome ingredients to those in heavily processed products. Think about how your body feels after you eat too much over-processed junk – sluggish, tired, maybe even irritated. In the same way, being mindful of what goes onto your skin is equally as important to what goes into your mouth.

After all, your skin is your largest and fastest-growing organ!  The skin is part of the Integumentary system which consists of the skin, hair, nails, and exocrine glands.

The skin has several responsibilities, for example, protection, body temp regulation, sensory reception, water balance, and the synthesis of vitamins and hormones and the absorption of other chemical materials is one of the skin’s primary functions.
Simply: What goes onto your skin absorbs into your skin.
Every chemical product you shower with, bath with, apply and are exposed to during your day all leaves a residual on our skin which can then be absorbed into your body.

Your skin is a powerful part of our greater well-being because of its vital role in absorption. Skin-absorbed medications are often prescribed by doctors because of the skin’s incredible ability to absorb and disperse what it absorbs throughout the body.  The immune, nervous, endocrine and lymphatic systems are all connected and function with the skin (epidermal, dermal, & connective) tissues. Click here to learn more about skin absorption of chemicals at the Center for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) website.

Learn more about what chemicals are lurking in your hygiene products here at Skin Deep’s massive skin product and ingredient database providing you with practical and reliable information about the potential hazards and health concerns of artificial ingredients. The Environmental Working Group operates the database with a staff of scientists who compare ingredients in personal care and self-care hygiene products including even what is in certain label adhesives. They provide valid and consistent findings of what happens when people are exposed to certain chemical compounds.
