The Apothecary Company Activated Charcoal Mint Toothpaste – The Natural Way…A Better Way

The Apothecary Company Activated Charcoal Mint Toothpaste.

Brushing — the mechanical process — is the number one way to protect your teeth from decay. But by also adding the right toothpaste you can make brushing extra-effective. Adding just a little bit of a very mild abrasive makes brushing away that plaque a bit easier. The Apothecary Company uses a blend of baking soda, raw organic Tcho fair-trade cacao nibs, coconut oil, essential oils, activated charcoal, lemon juice, and guar gum.

Baking soda acts as an ideal mild abrasive, which dissolves, leaving no grit behind. Plus its alkaline, so it has the added benefit of helping to neutralize excess acid in the mouth.

Free Trade Raw Organic Tcho Cacao Nibs. This delightful pure unprocessed raw chocolate is in its purest form, and it is loaded with nutrients and trace minerals. In toothpaste, it also acts as a very mild abrasive. And it tastes yummy with peppermint.

Xylitol. Xylitol is a naturally occurring alcohol found in most plant material, extracted from birch wood to make medicine. Xylitol helps prevent tooth decay by aiding the remineralization process – your mouth’s natural anti-cavity mechanism. Plus because your mouth, nose, and ears are all interconnected, when toothpaste sweetened with Xylitol is used in brushing, people show a reduced rate of ear and yeast infections – a common problem in children. Xylitol also fights the yeast Candida albicans, which can lead to candida infections. Xylitol reduces the yeast’s ability to stick to surfaces, thereby helping prevent infections. Xylitol starves plaque-producing bacteria. One study in children with recurring ear infections observed that daily usage of xylitol-sweetened products like toothpaste or chewing gum reduced their infection rate by 40%.

Coconut oil. This amazingly versatile oil it gives a smooth mouthfeel, holds ingredients together, and helps kill nasty microorganisms — including candida and tooth decay bacteria while supporting beneficial ones. Organic, cold-pressed and unrefined is the best kind to use.

Essential oils. Essential oils infuse with coconut oil really well and are a great way to add flavors while also adding health benefits. We blend Wintergreen and Peppermint Essential Oils with a mix of spices. Wintergreen packs a powerful punch having the healing properties of an analgesic, anodyne, antirheumatic, antiarthritic, antispasmodic, antiseptic, aromatic, astringent, carminative, diuretic, emmenagogue and stimulating properties. Great for health in general, we blend it with peppermint essential oil for a yummy minty taste. Peppermint also is great for its ability to treat respiratory problems, headache, nausea, fever, stomach and bowel spasms, as well as reduce pain. We also put a splash of Clove Stem Essential Oil in every jar for its antibacterial properties and incredible antioxidant qualities. Lastly, a couple drops of Cinnamon Essential Oil to help fight bacteria and tooth decay. This mix tastes great and cleans the mouth, whitens teeth, while adding to overall better health.

Guar gum. This all natural plant-based powder is extracted from guar beans and thicken cosmetic applications. Guar gum is used as a laxative for treating constipation. Ironically, it is also used for treating diarrhea, diarrhea due to cancer drugs, and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). It also is used to treat high cholesterol and high blood pressure. In foods, beverages, or cosmetics guar gum is used as a natural thickening and binding agent.

Spices. Powdered spices, such as cloves, cinnamon, ginger and mint add flavor and a gentle abrasiveness to the toothpaste. At The Apothecary Company, we’d rather stick with natural flavors. The Apothecary Company puts people before profits by paying the extra money for the best quality natural ingredients that only ever add homeopathic value to your already established self-care habits.
